An early presence was the Barrison Theatre, on Sheridan Road adjacent to the Carnegie Library. A livery stable was transformed into the Barrison in 1907 for stage performances. It was named after Mabel Barrison, a popular performer of the day. Several name changes occurred before the theatre finally closed in 1913.
